Get Out of the House Daily
After bringing your newborn home, it’s understandable if you want to stay inside with them. However, being cooped up all day isn’t good for you or your baby. You both need fresh air, sunshine, and a break from your everyday environment. That’s why we recommend getting out of the house daily, even if it’s just for a brisk 15-minute walk around the neighborhood.

Allow For Noise During Naps
For many new parents, it makes sense to silence the entire house while their baby sleeps, but this can do more harm than good. While you may want peace and quiet for your little one to rest, not allowing any noise in their environment can make it difficult to get anything done while they’re napping. In fact, the slightest sound may end up waking them, which only makes life harder for you. Instead, allow for normal levels of household noise, and you’ll find your baby learns to sleep right through it!

Get Sleep Whenever Possible
You may have heard that new parents should sleep when their baby sleeps, and we’re here to tell you this is great advice! You may be tempted to catch up on chores or unwind with TV while your little one is napping, but that time is likely better spent getting some sleep yourself. If you’re running on low energy constantly, you could put your baby in danger because you may fall asleep at inappropriate times, like during feeding sessions. Your chores and hobbies will be there later, so take a nap whenever possible!

Find a Daycare Early On
If you’re going back to work or resuming other obligations shortly after your baby is born, don’t overlook daycare. It’s important to find one you like and can trust early on, so you’ll be prepared to send your little one when the time comes. Not to mention, some centers have waitlists that fill up quickly. At The Step by Step School, we offer tours of our facility so new parents can see our daycare center for themselves.
