Summer camp is one of the more iconic experiences for any child. Whether it’s a sleep-away camp in the woods or a week that is chock full of activities and social events, the experiences of any child at a summer camp are something that will give them memories forever. It could be swimming around in a beautiful lake next to the forest; it could be running around a grass field with ice cream in your hand; it could be squirt gun fights or canoeing or flag football; everyone has an exciting memory from the time they were at summer camp.

Water Fights!
During the hot summer months, just about everyone can enjoy a good splash in the water. While pristine mountain lakes or massive water parks can be an amazing experience for the kids, it can be a lot to deal with both logistically and financially. You can still get that refreshing splashing feeling, and have a bit of fun with it too with some water fights at a nearby summer camp or by yourself! Find an open park or field and choose the type of water weapons. It could be handheld squirt guns for everyone, or a massive bowl of water balloons, or maybe even just an instructor with a long water hose! The kiddos can run around and play in the sun, getting splashed or squirted and giggling the whole time, all while getting some refreshing water during the hotter temps at summer camp.
Sports
Sports are always a mixed bag for a large group of children. Competitiveness is innate in most sports, and for those children who are more interested or more naturally adept, they can take it a bit too seriously, not to mention the kids who are less interested or less adept not having much fun at all. But while at summer camp you can take certain sports and add some modifications to the rules so that everyone is involved and has fun. Kickball allows most of the kids to get a shot “at bat” and everyone can experiment with different positions. Soccer can be fun too, especially if you add multiple balls and multiple goals, maybe even an instructor at the summer camp in Hoboken on the sideline with a hose spraying anyone who gets too close! As long as you emphasize the larger group involvement and fun, sports can be a great outdoor summer camp activity for all.
Make Your Own ___
Children have incredibly creative minds, and activities for summer camp can offer a perfect environment to fully express themselves and their creative desires, as well as get some exposure to the creativeness of other kids. There are a variety of “make your own ___” activities that are perfect for this, and the perfect activity for summer camp. You could go the artistic route and have them make things like customized placemats, a hanging mobile to put up in the house, or even something for Mom to put her jewelry on! You can also use food and have an outdoor cooking class at summer camp! The kids can be as messy as they want at summer camp, and at the end of all, they get to be proud of the homemade ice cream or cake design they made.
Cooperative Games
Games are a staple of any summer camp, both competitive and cooperative ones. But competitive games can get, well, pretty competitive, and as much fun as winning is, losing is not very fun for others. The idea is to make sure everyone is happy and enjoying themselves while at summer camp, and cooperative games allow for just that, while also allowing your child to develop some more cooperative and socialization skills at the same time. It could be tag team treasure hunts, it could be a relay race or an obstacle course, or maybe even just some simple tug of war. You might be pitting groups against each other at summer camp in Hoboken, but they will have to work together no matter the game, and the cooperative nature of these games will be a fun and exciting experience for all, win or lose.
Outdoor Art
Another way to let the creative side of your kids shine through at summer camp is with art! And during the summer, there are a number of ways your kid can do art in the great outdoors, while not making too much of a mess. Sidewalk chalk is a simple and great way to get the kids creativity blossoming, and it’s cheap and easy to clean up as well. If you have the supplies or the inclination, you could also set up some outdoor easels and give out paint and brushes, and have the kids paint a picture either at home or at summer camp. Or you can incorporate some aspects of nature, like using paint and rocks to make a mosaic or using tree branches to create a windchime — all of which are excellent summer camp activities.
